Welcome back to The City Blog! Stories of Lives Changed is a series highlighting the tangible power of God within our church family. God is moving in a mighty way and we want to share it with the world… one story at a time.

God’s plan is to give us the grace we need for the doors he opens!

“City of Truth has literally been the missing link that I yearned for all of my life”.

I grew up in and out of church. My parents are both believers but I didn’t see them actively in the church and church attendance was optional in our home. I only knew one scripture for most of my life which was John 3:16. I always enjoyed church and I believed in God. I would visit other people’s churches but I never had that sense of a church family. Even being a believer, I wasn’t sure I was truly saved and going to Heaven. There were so many unanswered questions back then.
Prior to joining City of Truth, the first time I joined a church was when I was 18. I attended that church for 8 yrs. I was still in my party phase and I would club on Saturday, and Sunday I would be in the choir stand singing. I really didn’t start getting convicted about my lifestyle enough to change until about 4 years later. I believe that’s when I started actually opening my Bible outside of church and my curiosity to go deeper in my walk with Christ began. I believed I was truly saved at that point in my life. I stayed at that church mainly following in my immediate family’s footsteps, but I felt out of place. I was missing something but I did not know what. One day, I just stopped attending church. Nothing happened, I just no longer had the desire to go. I thought, “shouldn’t I miss this church I’ve been going to all these years?” But I didn’t miss it. After weeks of not attending, no one checked on me from the church. I realized maybe it was time to venture out and visit new churches. I never thought I would find exactly what I needed!
One Sunday back in 2015, I woke up needing to be in the house of the Lord. I woke up too late for the church I was going to and I began to ask around to friends and family had their church service started yet. Through my best friend Ashli, I ended up visiting City of Truth that day. It was so different from any church I had ever been to. I was not used to the casual dress and definitely not used to seeing young people truly on fire for God. It was contagious! I felt God’s presence. I felt the heart of the Pastor and his mission for Kansas City. It was something I wanted to be a part of. I wanted to be a part of seeing lives changed. Led by the Holy Spirit, I joined after 3 visits. There was no way I was going back to a “traditional church”. City of Truth has literally been the missing link that I yearned for all of my life. I’m happier now, my walk with God is real now, and I’m excited for everything God is doing in our church and in our city. I am so proud to be a part of this family. I love my church family and wherever God takes us I’m going. I will never be the same after experiencing true worship and relevant teaching that has helped turned my life around. I am truly a new creature now. There’s no pretending, and no wondering if I will make it into God’s kingdom when my time here is up. I thank God for my new home that I have found at City of Truth Church. When we say “Change is Here” that is truly my experience”.

“City of Truth had just given me a renewed fire for the Lord through many ups and downs”.

That I’ve gained a greater excitement for my walk with Jesus. So much has happened this year that had challenged me. I feel like the devil showed me he is intentional about trying to destroy things in my life but God has held me down. City of Truth has just made it a smoother process of committing to God and with the things I’ve been through this year honestly God is the only option. Nothing else could make some of this stuff better. I’m really enjoying my growth and the relatability Pastor preaches with. City of Truth had just given me a renewed fire for the Lord through many ups and downs.

Here is another illustration Jesus used: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field.  It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.” Matthew 13:31-32 NLT
